Playa del ingles beach

Playa del ingles beach

Overview of Playa del Ingles

Playa del Ingles has a spacious beach that is several kilometres long. If you walk along the beach you will find out that the beach of Playa del Ingles turns into the Maspalomas Dunes. You can walk from the beach in Playa del Ingles and through the Maspalomas desert, you will then arrive at the beach in Maspalomas (Playa Maspalomas) after a walk of appx. 1.5 km.

No textiles..
The whole area between Playa del Ingles & Maspalomas is classified as a nude beach. So after walking a few hundred metres towards Maspalomas you will see the first signs about this being a nudist area. If you feel uncomfortable about this, please stay at the Playa del Ingles part of the beach. The nude area is very well visited, but there are also a minority wearing textiles in this area. Maybe they did not see the sign.

Sand and width
The beach in Playa del Ingles consists of fine sand with a golden colour. It’s several hundred metres wide.

Plenty of space
No shortage of space to lie down.

The beach is gigantic and especially if you wander a few hundred metres towards Maspalomas, you’ll find it very spacious.

Pricey?
Pricey sunbeds.
As mentioned above it’s plenty of space on the beach if you bring your own towel to lie on. If you want to hire a sunbed and an umbrella you have to fork out some euros. One sunbed is €2.50.
Compared to other typical holiday resorts this is not too expensive.

Eat and drink
There’s bars and restaurants on the beach. Some of them provide entertainment also during the day. A Sunday in January there were a man singing Frank Sinatra songs at a stage in one of the bars.
There’s a few small outlets selling ice cream and drinks at the beach.

That 1970’s feeling
When you walk up from the beach and to the beach promenade in Playa del Ingles you can’t help but wonder if really nothing has been done interior and exterior-wise. It’s classic holiday resort 1972-style. Here’s a photo I snapped 50 metres from the beach:
Classic holiday resort style.
But then again, it’s not the design that brings visitors to Playa del Ingles!

About the resort

Playa del Ingles stretches out over a large area. It is definaetely not a town with small and idyllic streets. It’s an asphalt jungle where there is long distances between various places you may want to go. Hotels dominate and you will find restaurants and shops scattered around. There are plenty of taxis around, and you’ll need a taxi in order to get to various places without walking for most of your day.

Shopping centres

A solution to all the walking is found in the many shopping centres scattered around Playa del Ingles. The shopping centres are not your average shopping centre with shops selling shoes, clothes and electronics. Instead it’s like various full fledged entertainment complexes. The centres often consists of one floor dedicated to restaurants, another floor dedicated to shops selling clothes and yet another one dedicated to bars.
