Playa del ingles activities

Playa del ingles activities

Aqualand Maspalomas

Aqualand Maaspalomas is located along the GC-503 road, inland from Maspalomas. Appx. 500 metres from the Campo Internacional.
Attractions in the Aqualand includes swimming with sea lions and various water rides.
It claims to be the biggest waterpark in Gran Canaria.

Holiday World

Holiday World is located in Maspalomas, you’ll easily find it due to its enormous fenris-wheel. This is an entertainment park with rides, bowling and other options. Entry is free, but you pay for each ride you would like to try.

Palmitos Park

This is a tropical park/zoo located a few kilometres inland from the coast of Maspalomas. Crocodilles, monkeys, eagles, flamingos and more.

www.palmitospark.es

Sioux City

This is a wild west city located outside Bahia Feliz. Visit the saloon, the city jail and the cementary. There is wild west shows several times each day. Open each day from 10.00 to 17.00. Closed on Mondays.

Rent a bike

The long stretched beach promenade from Playa del Ingles to Meloneras is well suited for a relaxed bicycle trip. There’s also plenty of opportunities to cycle on the various local roads in Gran Canaria.
There are many different places that rent out bicycles in the Playa del Ingles & Maspalomas area. I counted at least 3-4 various ones. The prices for the most basic bicycle seem to be €6-7 a day. Better bicycles are available from €10-15. Racing bicycles are also available some places, priced from €20-25 and upwards.
We rented two bicycles from Lino’s Rent a Bike. Lino is a friendly and charming man who runs his bike rental business from the Faro II shopping centre in Maspalomas. He has a free pickup service from the nearby hotels, that means that you can rent a bike from him and then have him come pick up the bike at your hotel when the rental is over. Great service.
We rented two decent hybrid-bikes for two days, the cost would be €44, but he gave us a discount without even having to ask him. Ended up paying €40. There were no deposits or any complicated bureaucracy when renting.
Lino’s bike Address:
Campo Internacional - C.C Faro 2
Phone: 928 768 741
Cell phone: 608 018 444

Rent a motor bike

There are various places where you can rent a motor bike. The price to rent a small scooter like Piaggio 125 starts at €20 per day. If you want a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 it will cost you from €50.
How to find a bike?
In most hotel receptions there are 2-3 flyers with information from local motor bike rentals. Ask your receptionist and compare price

Restaurants

There’s a huge selection of restaurants in Playa del Ingles.
There’s Indian restaurants, Italian pizza places, Chinese all you can eat buffets and Scandinavian cafes serving local dishes for the large group of nordic tourists. There’s of course also many restaurants who have “everything” on the menu. From fish to pizza.
My advice is to select a restaurant which has some sort of speciality to get some tasty food and real value for your money. If you go to a general “we have everything, sir!” restaurant you are likely to get disappointed.

Centrum

This is a popular restaurant located in the Yumbo shopping centre in Playa del Ingles. In the beginning of January most of the tables were occupied. We got a table inside the restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient. The food was by no way the highlight of the holiday, but it was decent enough. You can’t really expect the best in a touristy restaurant in a shopping centre, can you?

The prices of food:

Entrecot a la Canaria €10.95
Lasaña Gratinada €6.25
Jarra Cerveza €2.95
Address: C.C Yumbo Centrum L-232-7-8
TLF: 928 766619

Toro Piedra III

Toro Piedra is a restaurant specializing in meat. The restaurant is decorated with bullfighting effects and in its advertising it claims that its’ speciality is meat over stone (carne a la piedra).
We chose a t-bone steak and a wienerschnitzel for our meal. The schnitzel was tasty and of good quality, the t-bone steak was on the small side and only consisted of the tenderloin side of the steak. See definition of t-bone steak here: wikipedia article. The price for this “t-bone steak” was €16.90, in order to serve a proper t-bone steak and make a profit the cost should be closer to €20. So, I guess they cut the amount of meat and the price accordingly in order to have t-bone on the menu.
The one we ate at is located in the Varadero shopping centre in Meloneras. But they are also located in the Faro II shopping centre in Maspalomas.
Prices:
T-bone steak: €16.90
Wienerschnitzel: €9.95
0.4l of beer €2.95

Shopping

There are plenty of opportunities to buy various stuff in Playa del Ingles. But beware, most of the shops sell cheap fabric t-shirts, funny signs, hats and other “tourist junk.” The prices are not especially cheap either with 10 euros for a t-shirt etc.
You will probably get better value for money if you shop at H&M or Zara back home.

Playa del ingles beach

Playa del ingles beach

Overview of Playa del Ingles

Playa del Ingles has a spacious beach that is several kilometres long. If you walk along the beach you will find out that the beach of Playa del Ingles turns into the Maspalomas Dunes. You can walk from the beach in Playa del Ingles and through the Maspalomas desert, you will then arrive at the beach in Maspalomas (Playa Maspalomas) after a walk of appx. 1.5 km.

No textiles..
The whole area between Playa del Ingles & Maspalomas is classified as a nude beach. So after walking a few hundred metres towards Maspalomas you will see the first signs about this being a nudist area. If you feel uncomfortable about this, please stay at the Playa del Ingles part of the beach. The nude area is very well visited, but there are also a minority wearing textiles in this area. Maybe they did not see the sign.

Sand and width
The beach in Playa del Ingles consists of fine sand with a golden colour. It’s several hundred metres wide.

Plenty of space
No shortage of space to lie down.

The beach is gigantic and especially if you wander a few hundred metres towards Maspalomas, you’ll find it very spacious.

Pricey?
Pricey sunbeds.
As mentioned above it’s plenty of space on the beach if you bring your own towel to lie on. If you want to hire a sunbed and an umbrella you have to fork out some euros. One sunbed is €2.50.
Compared to other typical holiday resorts this is not too expensive.

Eat and drink
There’s bars and restaurants on the beach. Some of them provide entertainment also during the day. A Sunday in January there were a man singing Frank Sinatra songs at a stage in one of the bars.
There’s a few small outlets selling ice cream and drinks at the beach.

That 1970’s feeling
When you walk up from the beach and to the beach promenade in Playa del Ingles you can’t help but wonder if really nothing has been done interior and exterior-wise. It’s classic holiday resort 1972-style. Here’s a photo I snapped 50 metres from the beach:
Classic holiday resort style.
But then again, it’s not the design that brings visitors to Playa del Ingles!

About the resort

Playa del Ingles stretches out over a large area. It is definaetely not a town with small and idyllic streets. It’s an asphalt jungle where there is long distances between various places you may want to go. Hotels dominate and you will find restaurants and shops scattered around. There are plenty of taxis around, and you’ll need a taxi in order to get to various places without walking for most of your day.

Shopping centres

A solution to all the walking is found in the many shopping centres scattered around Playa del Ingles. The shopping centres are not your average shopping centre with shops selling shoes, clothes and electronics. Instead it’s like various full fledged entertainment complexes. The centres often consists of one floor dedicated to restaurants, another floor dedicated to shops selling clothes and yet another one dedicated to bars.

to everyone who's disapointed in linekers playa del inglés, the bar use to be locatated in s.c "metro" where it was a nice and quite popular place to go for a drink actually, however the bar was sold and moved last summer to shoppingcenter plaza and changed in to a small bar (before namned rooneys bar). since it's not very smart move to open an english footboll bar when it's the scandinavian season in gc we had to close it again in lack of..well people.. i think they'll open it again in summer=)

a very big one and definitely not a smile. We have just come back from Playa del Ingles where we had a wonderful time.

We visited Linekers Bar during the day for a drink then noticed on the card that keeps getting given to you that there is an every night party. We thought oh great it will be lovely to speak to some English people for a change AND have a good time. WHAT PARTY? We went along on the Thursday night and although practically every bar was open not Linekars Bar! same on Friday.
Personally we wouldnt bother to go to a Linekars Bar again - why advertise when you have no intention of opening. We must have been given a card with your advert on at least 6 times while we were there.

Your comments would be appreciated.
